Telecommunications Technician
6 month – Contract to Hire Opportunity
Pay rate: $38 – $40 hr during contract term – $80 – $85K upon full-time conversion
The Telecommunications Technician is responsible for providing support to the telecom infrastructure including VoIP phone system; POTS communications, Classified and Non-Classified communications; wireless communications and personal electronic devices, cable plant infrastructure, PBX support, Voice Mail Support, and Telecommunications operation and maintenance support for a large end-user organization.
Work Location: On-site in Arlington, VA (Monday – Friday), with core hours between 6 am – 6 pm, (8-hour shift within this window), with off-hours for project work as necessary, based upon the needs and direction of the customer.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: This position will include, but is not limited to, the following tasks:
- Support Avaya/Cisco UC Telephony and VOIP.
- Support call Voice Engineering Initiatives for all Project-related and ongoing operations for voice communication services.
- Implement and troubleshoot voice-related solutions/incidents/system outages.
- Monitor, review, recommend, test, and implement new software revision/feature sets/Patch evaluation and periodic system refresh.
- Provide operation and maintenance service per defined service level agreements.
- Provide telecom switch and voicemail programming and support.
- Support for landline telephony management.
- Support remote site telecommunications service.
- Support wireless devices (e.g. smart phone, satellite phone, table, and hotspot).
- Provide fiber and copper cable infrastructure plant maintenance and additions/removals.
The Telecommunications Technician will:
- Ensure that customer telephony systems are functioning and maintain uptime.
- Perform troubleshooting on equipment and data circuit outages.
- Configure PBX and call manager systems, including setting up Vmail.
- Assist users as required and assist with user training upon system upgrades/changes.
Basic Required Qualifications and Skills:
- At the start date, must possess a valid IAT Level II Certification in ACTIVE status
- Minimum of two years of Telecommunications Experience.
- Experience with:
- Avaya or Cisco UC phone system.
- Call manager voicemail system experience.
- Fiber and copper installation and support experience (termination, testing, installing).
- Please note that pursuant to a government contract, this specific position requires U.S. Citizenship.
- All applicants must have current DoD Secret clearance day one and prior to entry on duty.
Desired Qualifications and Skills:
- Experience with other telecom technologies.
- ITIL Foundation Certification.
- A relevant educational degree in one of the following fields: Computer Science, Information Systems, Information Technology, Cyber Security, Systems Engineering, Computation Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Information Technology, Software Engineering, Systems Engineering, or Telecommunications.
